Last Night at the Rue Bayou is Just Beginning
As the French Quarter fills music fans after a day of festivals, many may feel a relaxed nightcap may be in order, and the “Rue Bayou” nightclub’s marquee at the shabby-chic playhouse at 4 French Market Place—seemingly hiding in plain sight across from the market itself—will enchant them into an interactive musical experience…
New bayou-themed musical opens in New Orleans
A new musical opens Thursday in the French Quarter, promising an immersive experience with gumbo and drinks.
The big picture: “Last Night at the Rue Bayou” is a love story “spiced up with a little ghost story and the soul of New Orleans,” a press release says.
In “Last Night at the Rue Bayou,” Ilean Durand has pursued a labor of love. Her bar, Rue Bayou, carries on the legacy of her late husband, the singer King B Bouchard. Though she was an R&B singer herself when she was younger, she got out of the business and devoted herself to the club.

“We went last night and it was absolutely fabulous. I felt transported. The production quality was 1000% the actors their voices, the story, the lighting, the food the drink drinks all the while you could hear barges off in the distance. I mean this is just a magical city and I am so, so happy that I got to be a part of that last night. This gig is only for three weeks but I think it should stay much, much longer. This is something New Orleans really needs. I haven’t seen anything better at the Sanger theater or the Orpheum. Honestly, I feel like my life is complete. My face hurts so badly from smiling all night and I definitely got teary-eyed. Bravo bravo can’t wait to see it again. I am definitely coming back and I am gonna spread the word.” – Gena Nola
